Lessons I've Learned from My Second-Grader

The latest installment in my Lessons I've Learned series focuses on my 7-year-old daughter.

Lessons I've Learned from My Second-Grader:

> Laugh! Tell jokes! If you're having a bad day, it can always be made better by laughing.

> Run! Be active! If you're feeling bored or lethargic, it will get you going.

> You can never listen to a great song too many times. Her favorite right now is Pharrel's "Happy".

> Kiss your baby. A lot. They like it and let's face it, so do you. If you don't have a baby, ask someone else if you can kiss theirs.

> Petting a dog makes you happy. If you don't have a dog, ask someone else if you can pet theirs.

What lessons has your son or daughter taught you?

  1. Don't you just love the innocence of a child?

I love my boys concrete thinking. They don't read too much into anything- that is bound to change with time as they grow.

  2. 2nd graders are awesome, they really can teach you a lot. My youngest is just about to finish 2nd grade and his zest for life is contagious--I love it!

    1. Second graders are so eager to learn! It's such a fun group to teach if you are a teacher.

    1. Thanks! I use Pic Monkey. I just discovered it recently. It's really easy to use.

  4. Let your kids show you how amazing they can be. If they do cartwheels, it's amazing. If they are kind, it's amazing. When they grow up it will be magnified even more. My kids taught me to believe in them.

  5. My kids taught me to believe in them. If they are excited and enthusiastic about things, it's the best thing ever. Don't let other people tell them they can't do great things or be amazing. I'm their biggest fan and they prove to me everyday that I can believe in them.

  6. I too have a second grader, as well as a third grader. More than anything, they've taught me -- even if it's by me helping them -- to not sweat the petty things. :)

    1. Definitely! We don't want to dwell on things we can't control! Thanks for sharing!

    1. We had to remind my daughter to actually let us know when she's just telling a story or when it's the truth. She has such an imagination!

  8. These are very similar to my Kindergartners as well. Oh, to be a kid again!

  9. Very cute! I have a second grader also. She would say similar things. Her additions would be that fashion skills are better than writing skills. Who needs mommy when you have friends down the street? LOL Sad to think she's almost a 3rd grader. Where did the time go?!

    1. I thought of one to add as well. My daughter says "Sometimes you want to be around your parents but sometimes you just want them to go away." I told her I feel the same way about her sometimes but there's nothing wrong with that. We all need our space sometimes. :)
